The 5 years prior to my joining Herbalife had been very difficult. The business that I had run for 20 years was in difficulties, not through making mistakes, but through market changes and insufficient working capital. So here I was, at the age of 63, with large debts and no prospects.

For me, Herbalife was going to be the last throw of the dice. With hindsight I had no idea what I was getting into. I didn't know anything about MLM, knew nothing about the Health and Wellness Industry or the weightloss business (my old business was with watersports products). What I did know a little about was how to build a business, pretty basic stuff really even when applied to something quite unknown to me.
Anyway I joined Herbalife and with these basics under my belt I got down to work. I did manage to achieve results rather faster than I imagined. World Team in three months, and GET team in a year. Then as a result of a special promotion, I was able to visit Los Angeles and meet with Mark Hughes at his Beverley Hills home.
The one thing that I also learned was I got better results when I was doing what I was advised. This was very difficult for me, I had been totally independent for 20 years and following instructions, or not finding my own solution was not second nature. However I learned through my mistakes and found that most of the advice I was being given, to my surprise, was actually quite good.
So by persevering, and despite many disappointments (people are often not as serious as they say they are), I was able to progress to a point where I had a stable income from Herbalife, and for the past two years I have been able to take it relatively easy.
I am now 69 and enjoy the freedom the business offers.
